Accommodations are tools or services that can be used to ensure equal access (or as close to equal access) in the classroom and/or workforce.
Access to Notes - it is VERY difficult if not impossible for a Deaf/ hard of hearing child to effectively take notes AND listen to what's being said. Getting a copy of the notes / a qualified note taker can be a game changer.
Captioning - beneficial for everyone, though not a replacement for hearing (in ASL or English) what is being said. Captions as an accessibility tool can be helpful if you have certain skills in place already.
Hearing Assistive Technology - HAT can help many, but it doesn't 'cure' the hearing loss. It CAN help though.
Extended time during testing - allows for time to process and think!

**PLEASE NOTE** Not everyone needs every accommodation. If you are in school (PK-12) please have a conversastion with the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to help ensure the accommodations needed are in your IEP or 504 Plan. For college students and beyond, reach out to the disability support services for help.
